I. Giới thiệu
IELTS TUTOR lưu ý:
- Across được dùng như trạng từ & giới từ
- Across mang nghĩa từ bên này sang bên kia, đầu này qua đầu kia ( from one side to the other of something which has sides or limits such as a city, road or river) hoặc đối diện (the other side of something)
II. Dùng "across" như trạng từ (adv)
Mang nghĩa "từ bên này sang bên kia"
=from one side to the other of something with clear limits, such as an area of land, a road, or a river

- Can you swim across ? (IELTS TUTOR giải thích: anh bơi sang bên kia được không?)
- Will you row me across ? (IELTS TUTOR giải thích: anh chèo xuồng chở tôi sang bên kia được không?)
- I helped the blind man across (IELTS TUTOR giải thích: tôi giúp người mù qua đường phía bên kia)
- come across to my office tomorrow morning (IELTS TUTOR giải thích: sáng mai hãy ghé qua cơ quan tôi)
- When I reached the river, I simply swam across.
My neighbour came across to see me this morning to complain about our cat.
The road was so busy that we found it difficult to get across.
III. Dùng "across" như giới từ (preposition)
1. Mang nghĩa "từ bên này qua bên kia"

- She walked across the field/road.

- The Ponte Vecchio is a beautiful old bridge across the river Arno in Florence.
She divided the page by drawing a red line across it. Then she cut it in two.
We took a boat across the river.
Across the room, she could see some old friends. She got up and went to join them.
2. Across from = "ở bên phía kia", "đối diện"
=across from is used to refer to people or objects being ‘opposite’ or ‘on the other side

- across from thì trước đó mới đi với to be, còn nếu across + địa danh thì trước đó sẽ đi với động từ thường

The pharmacy is across from the Town Hall (động từ tobe)
- They're building a new bridge across the river (động từ thường)

3. Mang nghĩa "khắp cả nước, thành phố..."
=something is happening at the same time in many places, e.g. within an organisation, a city or a country

- She’s opened coffee shops across the city and they’re very successful.
Across the country, people are coming out to vote for a new president.
4. Mang nghĩa "cách hai bên"
=diameter or width
IELTS TUTOR xét ví dụ:
- the river is half a mile across (IELTS TUTOR giải thích: sông rộng đến nửa dặm)
- The building is 157 metres long, 92 metres across and the façade is 68 metres wide.
