II. Cách dùng
1. Mang nghĩa "chấp nhận sự thật của cái gì; thừa nhận cái gì"
=to accept, admit, or recognize something, or the truth or existence of something
IELTS TUTOR xét ví dụ:
- to acknowledge one's guilt (IELTS TUTOR giải thích: nhận tội; thú tội)
- to acknowledge the need for reform (IELTS TUTOR giải thích: thừa nhận sự cần thiết phải cải cách)
- a generally acknowledged fact (IELTS TUTOR giải thích: một thực tế đã được mọi người thừa nhận)
- he acknowledged it to be true /that it was true (IELTS TUTOR giải thích: anh ấy thừa nhận điều đó là đúng)
- they refused to acknowledge defeat /that they were defeated /themselves beaten (IELTS TUTOR giải thích: họ không chịu thừa nhận thất bại/rằng họ đã bị thất bại/bản thân họ đã bị đánh bại)
- the country acknowledged his claim to the throne (IELTS TUTOR giải thích: đất nước chấp nhận yêu sách của ông ta đối với ngai vàng)
- She acknowledged having been at fault.
- She acknowledged that she had been at fault.
- You must acknowledge the truth of her argument.
- Historians generally acknowledge her as a genius in her field.
- She is usually acknowledged to be one of our best artists.
- They refused to acknowledge (= to recognize officially) the new government.
- He didn't even acknowledge my presence (= show that he had seen me).
- The government won't even acknowledge the existence of the problem.
2. Mang nghĩa "báo cho biết đã nhận được"
=to let someone know that you have received something that they sent to you
- acknowledge receipt of sth
