1. INSTEAD là adverb (Trạng từ)
Mang nghĩa"thay vì"
=If you do not do something, but do something else instead, you do the second thing and not the first thing, as the result of a choice or a change of behaviour

- Thông thường INSTEAD dùng như ADVERB sẽ đứng ở cuối câu một mình (KHÔNG CÓ NOUN Ở PHÍA SAU!)

- I'm going to drop yoga and do aerobics instead.
- Since we had no sugar, we used honey instead (IELTS TUTOR giải thích: vì không có đường, chúng tôi dùng mật để thay thế)

- He reached for the glass but did not drink, pushed it, instead, across the table towards Joanna.
- The kitchen might have been workable had Nicola kept it tidy; instead it was littered with pots and pans.
- I decided to forget about dieting all the time and eat normally instead.
2. INSTEAD OF là phrase (cụm từ)
Mang nghĩa "Thay thế cho ai / cái gì (Thay vì)"
=If you do one thing instead of another, you do the first thing and not the second thing, as the result of a choice or a change of behaviour.

- If you slosh in a dessertspoon when asked for a teaspoon you have 63 calories instead of 27.
- They raised prices and cut production, instead of cutting costs.
- Instead of going to work thinking that it will be totally boring, try to be positive.
