1. Dùng "power" như danh từ không đếm được
1.1. Mang nghĩa "khả năng; tài năng, năng lực"
=a natural skill or an ability to do something

- the power to do something
IELTS TUTOR xét ví dụ:
- He was so shocked by what happened to his parents that he lost the power of speech.
- The surgeon did everything in her power to save him.
- I will help you to the utmost of my power = I will do everything in my power to help you (IELTS TUTOR giải thích: tôi sẽ giúp anh với tất cả khả năng (quyền hạn) của tôi)
- He has amazing powers of concentration.
- Some people believed Rashad had the power to perform miracles.
1.2. Mang nghĩa "quyền lực; khống chế, áp sức mạnh lên"
=the ability to influence or control what people do or think / political control of a country or government / official or legal authority to do something

- power struggle (=an attempt by each of two people or groups to get control)
- be in power
- seize power
- exercise your power (=use your authority)
- abuse your power (=use your authority in a bad way)

1.3. Mang nghĩa "lực; công suất, năng suất; năng lượng"
=energy obtained from oil, coal, the sun etc, used for operating equipment and machines / the ability of a machine or vehicle to operate quickly and effectively

1.4. Mang nghĩa "sức mạnh, nội lực"
=the ability to achieve something or to make something happen/ physical force or strength

- beyond your power
- do everything in/within your power

2. Dùng "power" như danh từ đếm được
2.1. Mang nghĩa "quyền hạn"

- powers = authority

- You were acting beyond your powers when you agreed to give her a pay rise.
- Visitors to the city are respectfully reminded of the council's powers to remove illegally parked vehicles.
2.2. Mang nghĩa "khả năng"

- Với nghĩa này thường ở số nhiều
- powers = abilities:

2.3. Mang nghĩa "cường quốc, thế lực"
=a person, organization, or country that has control over others, often because of wealth, importance, or great military strength:
