IELTS TUTOR lưu ý về nghĩa thì hai từ này giống nhau nhưng khác nhau về vị trí trong câu:
- Dùng ' whereas' sau một dẫu phẩy để miêu tả 2 ý tương phản trong cùng một câu (Whereas cũng có thể đứng ở đầu câu)
- IELTS TUTOR xét ví dụ: Some people believe that schools are responsible for the behaviour of their students, whereas others argue that discipline is the responsibility of parents.
- Dùng ' however' để bắt đầu một câu ( và sau however phải có dấu phấy ) để nói lên một mệnh đề trái ngược với mệnh đề ở câu trước. Ngoài ra however có thể đứng ở vị trí khác (giữa câu - cuối câu) vì nó là trạng từ liên kết mà IELTS TUTOR đã hướng dẫn

- Some people believe that schools are responsible for the behaviour of their students. However, others argue that discipline is the responsibility of parents.
- She ran so fast. She missed the bus, however.
- They played well; however, they still lost the game.
