I. Dùng spill như động từ
IELTS TUTOR lưu ý:
- spill vừa là ngoại động từ, vừa là nội động từ, về kiến thức này IELTS TUTOR đã hướng dẫn kĩ cách phân biệt
1. spill dùng như ngoại động từ
1.1. làm tràn, làm đổ, đánh đổ (nước...)
to (cause to) flow, move, fall, or spread over the edge or outside the limits of something
IELTS TUTOR xét ví dụ:
- I spilled coffee on my silk shirt.
- IELTS TUTOR giải thích ý của câu này là đã làm đổ coffee lên váy rồi
- You've spilled something down your tie.
- Let's see if I can pour the juice into the glass without spilling it.
- He dropped a bag of sugar and it spilled all over the floor.
1.2. spill the beans = lộ tẩy, tiết lộ tin tức ra ngoài
IELTS TUTOR xét ví dụ:
- So who spilled the beans about her affair with David?
2. spill dùng như nội động từ
2.1. ( + over ) tràn ra, chảy ra, đổ ra (nước...)

- The contents of his bag spilled all over the floor.
II. Dùng spill như danh từ, mang nghĩa
sự làm tràn, sự làm đổ ra, sự đánh đổ ra
(an amount of something that has come out of a container)

- Could you wipe up that spill, please?
- In 1989, there was a massive oil spill in Alaska.
